The Csárdás Queen - Prince Edvin Lippert Weilersheim - Veszprém Petőfi Theatre - 2023
According to surveys, there is not a single minute when, somewhere on Earth — in a theatre, at a concert, in a film, on television or on the radio — one of Imre Kálmán's popular melodies, or one of the insert songs from The Csárdás Queen, is not heard. After its Viennese premiere in 1915, it swept across the whole of Europe; despite World War I, it was performed in Sweden, Finland, Poland, Russia and Italy, then in 1916 in Budapest, and eventually reached Broadway in New York. Even without the music it would be an excellent drama, enriched by truly eternally popular melodies, about which contemporary critics wrote: "In The Csárdás Queen, Kálmán was able to fuse the Viennese waltz with the captivating, temperamental Hungarian music. The wonderful numbers not only ensure its popularity, but also offer a truly musical experience..."
The costumes of artist Sáfár Mónika, who appears in the production, were designed by Rátkai Erzsébet, a Jászai Mari Award-winning Hungarian applied artist and Meritorious Artist, scenic, set and costume designer.
